Dear ISGS community,
This is an announcement that the ISGS conference that was scheduled for 2020 in Chicago has been postponed one year and will now happen in Hyde Park on the University of Chicago campus from July 13th-16th in 2021.
The Chicago organizers would like to extend their deepest sympathies to Susan Goldin-Meadow for the loss of her beloved and amazing husband, Bill Meadow September 14, 2019 in the early evening. Bill fought a battle with an illness over the course of 5 years. His battle was valiant and he was gracious and humorous until the end. This past year has been extraordinarily difficult for Susan and her family as Bill’s illness progressed.
The decision to delay was based on many discussions among the Chicago organizers, Spencer Kelly and the ISGS board. This was Susan’s wish because among all the other hurdles this past summer, the University of Chicago was not able to accommodate the conference in July 2020. Despite heroic efforts to find an alternative venue in Chicago for July 2020, the organizers unanimously decided (with the ISGS board’s blessings) to postpone the conference until 2021, when ISGS could be hosted at the University of Chicago where Susan Goldin-Meadow and David McNeill conducted seminal work in the field.
Although we know that many will be disappointed by the delay in the conference, we hope that the ISGS family will wrap their arms and hearts around this emotional turn of events and support this change in plans.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
